Lakewood – The Chatfield Chargers (1-1-2) faced the D’Evelyn Jaguars (2-1) in an intense,
heated match, which led to a 1-3 loss.
This Wednesday night’s matchup between Chatfield and D’Evelyn was nothing short of intense,
with both teams leaving everything on the field in a hard-fought battle. The first half opened with
D’Evelyn striking first. At the 36:16 mark, D’Evelyn forward #8 Isaac Osborne found the back
of the net, putting D’Evelyn on the board. Chatfield, however, refused to back down. Goalkeeper
Ethan Maldonado’s play remained crucial, with multiple saves that kept D’Evelyn’s offense
pushing.
The Chargers’ defense continued to break up D’Evelyn’s attacks. Ryder Buhl stood tall in the
face of their strong offensive players. Offensively, the Chargers pushed forward with a strong
effort from Noah Gallegos, who fired off a close-range shot that forced another tough save from
the D’Evelyn keeper. Later, Senior Captain Luke Tristch stepped up for a penalty kick attempt,
but D’Evelyn’s goalkeeper made a spectacular save to preserve the lead. However, D’Evelyn
closed out the half with another goal, making the score 0-2.
The second period brought new life for Chatfield. Midway through, Jack Stroh took advantage of
an opening and buried the ball. His goal brought momentum back to the Chargers, setting up a
thrilling finish. Both teams battled for control, trading possession and pressing hard on each play.
D’Evelyn managed to find their way back into a strong offensive position and finding the back of
the net, pushing the Chargers to fall 1-3.
Tritsch stated the Chargers adjusted defensively after the early strike from D’Evelyn. “We were
aware of their striker and made sure that he was man marked for the entirety of the game after
scoring early on.” Because of this, the Chargers “adjusted on set pieces by sitting back further”,
he expressed. Although this result is not what they wanted, the Chargers overcame the early
disadvantage by battling out for the rest of the match. Tritsch looks forward to Friday’s match
against Castleview, hoping the team “plays with a little more passion and intensity”.
Despite this loss, the Chargers showcased their defensive skills and worked hard against
D’Evelyn. With this, Chatfield takes away a new mindset heading into their match on Friday,
September 6th, facing Castleview at home.
