Chatfield (1-1) made a statement Thursday night, rolling past Horizon (0-2) 34-0 in a complete
team victory. The Chargers fired on all cylinders — scoring five touchdowns on offense while
the defense pitched a shutout to lock down their first win of the season.
The scoring started early when quarterback Cash Williams broke through for the opening
touchdown in the first quarter. Moments later, Brigham Jones came up with his first career
varsity interception, giving the Chargers another possession and adding to the early momentum.
From there, the offense took control with multiple Chargers finding the endzone throughout the
night. Williams connected with Jaden Zellar twice and Roni Rohlman once for scores through
the air, while Ryder Hoffschnieder punched in a touchdown on the ground to round out
Chatfield’s five trips to the end zone.
Williams credited the win to focus and preparation. “We had to go even harder at practice this
week, keep watching film, and keep finding ways to improve,” Williams said. “This week, everyone stepped up, took things to heart, and came out determined. We really set the tone with the way we worked, and it showed tonight.”
Defensively, the Chargers stood tall all night long. The unit kept its energy high while shutting
down Horizon’s offense, forcing repeated three-and-outs and never allowing them to establish a
rhythm. The defensive front dominated the line of scrimmage, and the secondary stayed
disciplined, sealing a complete shutout effort from start to finish. The team finished with 1 sack
and 11 quarterback hurries. Hofschnieder carried the night with 10 total tackles, and Justin Liss
and Colin Turnbull ended the night with 6 in the shutout win.
Head Coach Rosholt said he was proud of how his team responded after last week’s loss. “They
had a great week of practice and came out and executed really well,” Rosholt said. “I think they
took it personally, responded the right way, and came out on top. Last week we had a lot of new
starters and a young team, and unfortunately we ran into a really good opponent while still
figuring ourselves out. Tonight showed the progress we’ve made.”
By the fourth quarter, the outcome was no longer in doubt. The Chargers rotated fresh players
onto the field, yet the defense continued to slam the door, preserving the 34-0 shutout. With a
dominant win behind them, Chatfield now looks to build momentum heading into the next
matchup against Eaglecrest (1-1) at Legacy Stadium Thursday, September 11th.
